About the Event
On January 16, the Russian-Austrian civil society forum "Sochi Dialogue" held a presentation of the second edition of the book "Russia — Austria: Milestones in the shared history" within the framework of the international conference "Gaidar Forum". The book, published in Russian and German, is a scientific and educational project, which was prepared by scientists from leading universities and research institutes of both countries. The project was organized by the Russian-Austrian Commission of Historians, the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for the research on consequences of war.
The book presents a general view of scientists on the events in the history of bilateral relations from the end of the XV century to the present day, highlights complex international issues and challenges of our time. The book points out the activities of the Russian-Austrian civil society forum "Sochi Dialogue", established on May 15, 2019, which is currently the main mechanism for interaction between Russian and Austrian civil societies and plays an important role in bilateral relations between the countries.
Welcoming remarks were given by Andrey Fursenko, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Co-Chair of the Sochi Dialogue, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation in 2004-2012; Professor Stefan Karner, founder and first Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for the research on the consequences of wars, Co-chair of the Russian-Austrian Commission of Historians; Nadezhda Barinova, Director of the Historical and Documentary Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation; Nicole Grismayer, First Secretary of the Austrian Embassy in Russia; members of the team of authors: Olga Pavlenko, Vice-Rector for Research at the Russian State University for the Humanities, Professor Iskra Schwartz and Professor Wolfgang Muller, representing the Institute of Eastern European History at the University of Vienna.
"We would like to thank our Russian colleagues for their long-term cooperation and express special gratitude to the Russian–Austrian civil society forum" Sochi Dialogue", which supported the publication of this book, " said Stefan Karner, Professor, founder and first director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for the research on the consequences of wars, co-chairman of the Russian-Austrian Commission of Historians.
Stefan Karner also presented the book to the students of Moscow State Linguistic University.
