Summary

Photographer Christoph Reiter (Austria) held an online master class on photography for Russian young photographers on 22 October. His «hands and eyes» were a photographer Alexander Braun (Austria), who had flown to Moscow especially for this purpose the day before.

The workshop is to coincide with the opening of the FOTORUAT exhibition (23 October). The Russian-Austrian photo competition FOTORUAT is organised by the Regional Public Organisation " Austrian Friendship Society". The Sochi Dialogue Public Forum is a partner of this project in the framework of its priority area of youth work.

In 2021, the photo competition took place for the third time, attracted more than 500 young people from Russia and Austria, brought together professional photographers and talented amateurs, and was dedicated to the theme "Visually about the present". The works of the participants raised issues of importance to both Russian and Austrian society.

Christoph Reiter, St. Pölten (Austria) is an Austrian photographer and member of the jury for the FOTORUAT-2021 competition. As well as the contestants, he has been interested in photography since he was a teenager. He studied the interaction of technology, light, art and the right angle for good photography. Until today, Christophe always carries his camera with him and is in search of the right photographic subject, making the most of every moment of his life.

Christoph Reiter has participated in numerous competitions, which has led to a growth in the quality of his works. Today, the artist enjoys sharing his skills and experience with young photography newcomers. «The great thing about being a photographer is to see the joy you can bring to others simply by taking good pictures», he says.

Christoph Reiter's photo lab involves practice and active work, so it is aimed at people who already have basic photography skills. The participants are students of the Faculty of Communications, Media and Design at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, young photographers who did not win prizes in the FOTORUAT Austrian Friendship Society competition in 2021, but would like to raise the bar of their skills and take a crack at it again, as well as beginners working on their own brand identity. Participants received certificates and works for their portfolios.

The partner of the project was the Moscow Polytechnic Museum, whose exhibition features cameras and equipment for taking pictures of different countries and eras.

In order to promote the youth direction of Sochi Dialogue and to draw attention to the FOTORUAT competition, it was decided to combine the opening of the exhibition with the «Tennis Day» event in Luzhniki. The contestants' works were then taken to the National Research University Higher School of Economics for further exhibition for the next two weeks.
