Performance of the Nuremberg Trial Reenactment at the Russia National Center "The Nuremberg Verdict: Lessons of History for the Present and Future"

On May 6, a reenactment of the Nuremberg Trial was performed at the Russia National Center. The event was organized by Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU), with the support of the Russian-Austrian civil society forum "Sochi Dialogue" and the Russia National Center, in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.

The audience was transported to Courtroom 600 of the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg, where the historic sessions of the international tribunal took place. A distinctive feature of the performance was simultaneous interpretation from English, German, and French. Key moments of the proceedings—from the indictment of Nazi war criminals to the delivery of the final verdict—were reenacted by MSLU professors and students.

Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Konstantin Mogilevsky, speaking to journalists before the performance, noted:
"It is important to involve young people in preserving and transmitting historical memory, and we must constantly seek formats that are understandable and engaging for the youth. I believe this performance, created by the young people, fully meets these criteria."

Undoubtedly, the event—initiated by MSLU students—emphasizes the importance of preserving historical truth, which is especially relevant as the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory approaches.

The idea for the performance originated from an academic conference focused on issues of translation, particularly simultaneous interpretation, noted MSLU Rector Irina Kraeva.

"Today we speak about how important it is to know and preserve historical truth, and we also believe it is essential to teach our students to defend this truth. The Nuremberg Trials are an excellent foundation for implementing such ideas. Moreover, it aligns perfectly with our professional focus— we are dedicated to the professional training of interpreters," the rector said.

The university staged the performance with the support of the Russian-Austrian civil society forum Sochi Dialogue. As noted by Forum Director Maria Matveeva, the forum remains the sole operational platform for cooperation between the Russian Federation and Austria that continues to engage with European countries. Matveeva also highlighted the forum’s strong emphasis on fostering youth collaboration.
