Bridges of Friendship and Science: How Cultural and Academic Dialogue Unites Russia and Austria

True science and culture know no borders, and the best way to strengthen international ties is through direct human interaction and the exchange of experience. On 15 July, the Shuvalov Building of Lomonosov Moscow State University became a meeting place for experts and educators, hosting a warm and engaging gathering with representatives of the Austrian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature. The participants came together not only to discuss the promotion of the Russian language abroad, but also concrete initiatives aimed at advancing science diplomacy.

The guests were welcomed by Sebastian Hacker, President of the Austrian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature; Angelina Viktorovna Baeva, Chair of the Council of Young Scholars of the Faculty of Philosophy at Moscow State University; and Professor Dagmar Mironova. They emphasized the particular importance of maintaining direct academic contacts and involving young people in joint research projects.

The programme featured a number of substantive presentations. Darya Andreyevna Kozlova, Deputy Director of the “Sochi Dialogue” Forum and Secretary of the Coordination Council, spoke in detail about the Forum’s current projects and the support measures available in Russia for international scholars. The historical context of Russian science was explored by Mikhail Sergeyevich Kiselev, Associate Professor at Moscow State University, who gave a presentation on the history of religious studies at the University. Jossr Ghazi, Head of the International Student Centre, shared practical experience in supporting and integrating international students.

Following the official programme and lively discussions, the guests were invited to an informal programme. The participants went on an inspiring walk through the picturesque grounds of Moscow State University, concluding at the Vorobyovy Gory observation deck. The breathtaking panorama of the capital, warm memories, and commemorative photographs provided a fitting conclusion to the meeting, demonstrating that humanitarian ties between Russia and Austria continue to grow stronger through a genuine interest in each other’s science and culture.
