The country's cultural scene in 2021 will be bursting with festivals, concerts, exhibitions, musical performances and other events that immerse you in the world of beauty.
The year of Mozart begins with the Salzburg Festival, which traditionally starts on 27 January, the Maestro's birthday. It's not just the summer festival that makes Salzburg a world-class music city! A special finesse of place and energy is present in every event of the Salzburg Winter Festival Mozart Week. To celebrate Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birthday on 27 January, the city pays tribute to the great composer with a series of exclusive concerts.
Since 1956 the winter festival has been organised by the Mozarteum Foundation and it is this organisation that has made the winter composer's week a world-class cultural event with internationally renowned performers attracting international attention. Concert halls, squares and courtyards are filled with music, dancing and poetry readings. The opening performance will feature performances by the Wiener philharmonic. Mozart's world-famous compositions will be performed. And in mid-summer, the Salzburg Summer Festival begins with performances of Mozart's musical and theatrical works, including the famous "Marriage of Figaro".
The house where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born and lived will host an exhibition that will reveal many interesting and unknown details about the composer's life. The exhibition will enable visitors to follow the life of the genius from his birth in Salzburg to his death in Vienna.
Throughout the year, chamber music concerts will be held in Salzburg, and at the end of October the Autumn Festival of Sacred Music will begin in the churches. Masses written by Mozart will be performed in the place where they were once first performed.
More than 100 different events are being prepared in the Austrian capital, representing around 3,000 different events. In 2021, there will be musical surprises with Mozart's works for residents and visitors in Vienna. All locations that are connected in some way with the genius of classical music will be marked with special signs. There will be extra tours, lectures and, in light of the ongoing epidemic, a wide range of online events.
In 2021, Salzburg and Vienna will become majorvenues for cultural events, where the inimitable classics of the musical genre
will be played throughout the year.
